FAQ

Where, or how does USspecbook.com get it's information regarding standards and specifications?

The good ol' fashioned way. By asking. And then by asking again. And again, until we find the information our members and the public works construction industry is looking for.

Who provides the information?

Our municipal liaisons contact each and every public works office themselves, usually by telephone. Many of the public works employees we contact are extremely helpful and do their best to help us complete our mission to find or locate their public works standards and specifications. Without these individuals it would not be possible to create a tool like USspecbook.com.

How does USspecbook maintain all of the information?

We mostly use a lot of elbow grease. Quarterly to bi-annual telephone calls and emails are sent to public works administrators to ask if any updates or changes have been made to their standards and specifications as well as any new information pertaining to the point of contact; new phone number, new email addresss, etc. Our municipal liaisons are extremely appreicative when any Public Works staff takes time to reply to an update email as this is the most efficient way to communicate. We are aware of how busy Public Works Departments can get which is why we want to communicate our appreciation.

How does USspecbook.com support itself financially?

Inittially, to start the development of the website and begin collecting information, USspecbook.com received private investment from entities within the public works construction industry. But now we offer sponsorships for individual cities, counties and states. Sponsorships are how we are able to systematically maintain an up-to-date, quality database of public works stanards and specifications information.

Do you guys really have the enitre United States done?

Not yet...we're working on it day in, and day out.  As mentioned before, every little bit of help makes a difference.  If you see something we're missing, tell us.  If you know that a city or county has updated its standards and specifications, please tell us.  We will immediately address your email and find a solution as soon as possible.

Currently the states we have blanketed, or are in the progress of acquiring information regarding standards and specifications, are colored green on the home page.
